Panther Pride Scholarship
In 2011 the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation Board began an initiative to encourage graduating classes of Knoxville High School to consider funding scholarships on an annual basis for our high school graduates. We decided to name these financial awards Panther Pride Scholarships. Knoxville High School graduates are able to make donations to the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation and designate those donations to go toward their graduating class Panther Pride Scholarship. Once contributions have reached a minimum of $500, we will begin awarding a scholarship in the name of that class and will continue to do so on an annual basis as long as the minimum ($500) is met. Each year, the Board will provide awarding classes a framed certificate listing all of the graduates of that particular class. This certificate will be presented to the scholarship recipient by members of the class at our annual awards ceremony.
Every year there are many class reunions celebrating graduations ranging from as few as five years to some as many as fifty years ago. Forty-five classes have begun raising and pledging funds to support a Panther Pride Scholarship. If your class members are getting together on a formal or informal basis, please contact our Board President, Curt Froyen (641-891-7170 or email him at [email protected]. He would be pleased to come speak to your group.
In 2020 we awarded six Panther Pride Scholarships; the Class of 1961 (2), the Class of 1964 (2) and the Classes of 1980 and 1990 one each. The KHS Class of 1966 and the KHS Class of 1991 have raised enough money this year to fund new endowed scholarships. Their new scholarships will be awarded in 2021 for the first time.
Since 2011, when the first Panther Pride Scholarship was awarded, 55 Panther Pride Scholarships have been awarded by 15 KHS graduating classes. We applaud the efforts of the members of these classes and urge our alumni to contribute to your class Panther Pride Scholarship fund. Click on the DONATE tab on any page of this website, fill out the donate card and mail it in with your check made out to the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation. You can also just send a check to the Foundation with a note indicating which class your donation is intended for.
Our special thanks go out to the Knoxville Alumni Association for their enthusiastic support of our efforts and for their tireless work on behalf of this project and the many other special things they do for Knoxville Alumni!
